Perfect for a couple's getaway or artist's retreat
Tired of the City is a serene hideaway tucked among mature trees along the banks of the Cottonwood River in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. This thoughtfully renovated guesthouse was designed for rest, creativity, and meaningful connection—whether you’re escaping for a romantic couples getaway or settling in for a peaceful artists retreat.
On the property, guests can unwind at the private fishing dock, curl up with a book in one of several charming outdoor vignettes, enjoy birdwatching and picnics beneath the trees, sneak in an afternoon nap, or gather around the fire to roast marshmallows and hot dogs under the stars.
When you’re ready to explore, the heart of Cottonwood Falls is just minutes away, offering local favorites like Tallgrass Antiques and Prairie PastTimes, the breathtaking Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, the historic Cottonwood Falls Courthouse, go kayaking or paddleboarding at the lake. The area also hosts beloved events such as the Flint Hills Rodeo and the UNBOUND Gravel race, making Tired of the City the perfect home base for experiencing the charm, culture, and natural beauty of the Flint Hills.

Enjoy the entire guesthouse, upstairs and down.
When you book Tired of the City, you enjoy the entire two-story, century-old homestead that serves as our guesthouse. The first floor features comfortable living and dining areas, a full bathroom, and kitchen amenities: dishes & silverware, a Keurig coffee bar, microwave, and two refrigerators—one compact and one medium-sized—for added flexibility during your stay. Just outside, a Weber grill is available for outdoor cooking (please let us know in advance if you plan to use it so we can have it ready for you).
Upstairs, the guesthouse opens into a spacious bunkroom with four queen beds, a cozy conversation area, and a peaceful reading nook, making it ideal for retreats or shared stays. For those seeking additional privacy, a separate private bedroom offers a queen bed, writing desk, and its own reading nook—perfect for couples or artists in need of quiet inspiration. Mornings are best spent with coffee on the rooftop deck overlooking the Cottonwood River, where natural beauty and stillness set the tone for a truly restorative stay.

Please Note: The bathroom is located on the main floor and all sleeping areas are upstairs; due to the staircase, this space may be challenging for guests with mobility limitations and is not suitable for small children.

Tired of the City is the perfect place for teams to prep for the world-famous Unbound Gravel bike ride. Spend the day riding in the Flint Hills—including the Tallgrass National Prairie Preserve just north of town—unwind around the fire pit in the evening, and crash into one of 4 full-size beds in the upstairs bedroom.
Cottonwood Falls also boasts well-rated disc golf courses, and is just a 25 minute drive from Emporia, disc-golf capital of the world.
